  • Where does your plastic come from?
Some of the plastic is post-industrial scraps, some is packaging waste that other companies generate, and a lot of it is household plastic waste. We obtain household plastic waste (i.e., stretch wrap, bottle caps, old toys, markers, clamshell food containers… everything) from the Hefty ReNew program (if you’re in Boise, you might know this as the “orange bag” program).
  • What percent of your plastic is recycled?
We don’t use virgin plastic in our products.
  • Do you use only the major categories of recyclable plastics?
We use everything: plastics #1–7, plus unlabeled plastics and those typically considered “non-recyclable”. In fact, some of our favorite lumber products are a mixture of many types of plastics.
  • Are your products recyclable?
Yes. The products that we make can be recycled in our processes. In fact, our lumber that is made from mixed municipal plastic waste can be recycled many times without loss in materials properties.
  • I’ve seen plastic furniture before; how is this different?
Our plastic lumber is thick, strong, and contains color and UV protectants throughout (i.e., it’s not flimsy, brittle, cheap furniture). The furniture is heavy so that it doesn’t blow in the wind, and is built with exacting standards for strength, durability, and beauty. In other words, the furniture is designed and constructed to last a lifetime. This level of rigor also means that you don’t have to worry about your kids jumping on our furniture—it can handle it. Our designs also differ from traditional plastic furniture because they often employ wood or metal as accent materials, which give the pieces a unique, modern, and timeless aesthetic. Given their sleek lines and sustainable sources, our pieces make a statement, both about your design aesthetics and your principles.
  • So this is like plastic composite decking?
No, our plastic lumber is different: it's 100% recycled (others often are not) and does not contain wood fiber. As a result, Remix Materials lumber will not rot and cannot be damaged by water. Moreover, we offer several lines of lumber (much like you’ve seen with wood) that differ in hardness, color, stiffness, etc., so you can select a line of lumber to fit your needs. These various types of 100% recycled plastic lumber are made from mixtures of recycled plastic and include various additives to maximize performance.
  • Do you do custom sizing or designs?
Yes! Contact us at info@remixmaterials.com with the dimensions that you’d like, and we’ll provide a quote. We can also set up a video call if you’d like to consider bespoke items that perfectly fit your design aesthetics.
